When Water-Fire-Storm Damage Happens in Hickman, Ky. SERVPRO is Ready.

Nestled under and atop the bluffs overlooking the great Mississippi River, Hickman has the charm and beauty of the South, but most of all Hickman is a river town filled with the genuine flavor of Mark Twain's "Mighty Mississippi". In fact, Twain once called Hickman, "The Most Beautiful Town On The Mississippi. The town was once called Mills Point, in honor of James Mills, who settled on a military grant in 1819. In 1837 the name of the settlement was changed to Hickman, the maiden name of the wife of G.W.L. Marr, who had once owned the town site among his extensive landholdings. The river trade helped make Hickman a thriving town. In 1845 some 2,000 bales of cotton and 3,000 hogsheads of tobacco were shipped from the community. In 1845, with a population of 350, Hickman was chosen as the county seat of Fulton County. A brick courthouse overlooking the Mississippi River was completed in 1848 at a cost of $4,000. Hickman's status as a port lessened because of deposits along the Mississippi River, which made navigation close to the town more difficult. Dredging of the river by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers helped to ensure that Hickman had a permanent harbor, and by the late 1960s river traffic increased. In the mid-1970s, improvements were made to the city's public cargo handling terminal, which was of major importance to the region.

This area was long occupied by various cultures of indigenous peoples. European-American settlement of this area did not begin until decades after the American Revolutionary War.

Two floods devastated Hickman, the first in 1912 and the second in 1913. The flood of 1912 began when a levee located near Hickman broke. Within a few hours, the water had risen to the roofs of houses. The flood of 1913 began when a levee near West Hickman broke on April 4.

The climate in this area is characterized by hot, humid summers and generally mild to cool winters. September, May, and October are the most pleasant months in Hickman, while January and December are the least comfortable months.

What our
Hickman customers are saying

There was a mold issue discovered in my mom’s home. I called ServPro of Paducah and Chris and his team were very helpful and informative from the moment I called. They were able to get to the project quickly and I felt they were very transparent about the situation and the options. Mike was very accommodating in scheduling and very helpful with answering questions and providing recommendations for avoiding any future issues. I’m grateful for all their work and attention to our needs in a timely manner!!

I gave Chris a call after 3:00pm needing emergency water mitigation the following morning prior to an event. His team arrived bright and early and removed all the water from our 18,000 sf facility within a few hours. We have used them in the past for projects as well and will continue to do so. Great team!

We have been very impressed with ServPro from clean up to restoration. Having 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms damaged in a flood, they arrived immediately and took care of the damage. They worked with us to choose finishes for repair and came when they said they would come. Thank you for getting us back into our house and for taking away the stress of a repair!

Servpro of Paducah/Mayfield were Johnny-on-the-spot when my bathroom flooded and caused my tile and wood flooring to buckle after the water seeped under the flooring. They have all the right stuff to get your damage managed before serious problems occur. Thank you ServPro for your promptness and efforts treating me like a valued customer.

Brad Johnson

Very prompt & professional service. I discovered water damage on a holiday & within a few hours a team arrived at my house to start the process of drying everything out. They helped to move furniture & belongings from the damaged areas and provided a trailer for storage of belongings while repairs were being made. Highly recommend.

Tina Travis

I found my floor had been saturated with water from my hot water heater on a Sunday evening. I called Serpro and within the hour, they had equipment being set up at my house to remove and dry the floor that was neccesary. They stayed diligent until my floor was dry and not just dry to the touch but making sure my floor got the right humidity levels. I couldn't compliment this company any better. Everything was communicated very well as far as what they were doing and what to expect for the next step. Serpro excelled very well with their professionalism. Serpro is extremely helpful in an already stressful situation. I will absolutely give their service 5 stars and recommend others for their services.

I had a faulty valve burst in my basement. Serv Pro came the day after we discovered burst pipe. I already had repair work done. I was out of town for a few days and the leak caused mold. Serv Pro cleaned up the horrible mess. They were so nice and professional. They were excellent and I would recommend them to my friends and family.
