The City of Berkeley Lake in Gwinnett County was formed in 1956. From its origin as a summer retreat, Berkeley Lake has grown into a thriving community centered on its 88-acre namesake, private lake. The community consist of several subdivisions and several ordinances have been passed to protect the character and tranquility of the community. In December 1996, a tract of approximately 63 acres of undeveloped forest land was purchased by the city to provide both buffer and greenspace.
