Fredericktown is a city in the county seat of Madison County, Missouri, in the northeastern foothills of the St. Francois Mountains. Even though it was settled much earlier, Fredericktown wasn’t named until 1818. In 1900 that the now-historic Madison County Courthouse was built and still stands at 1 Courthouse Square. Fredericktown is nearly unique in the United States for minerals and metals mined nearby, including lead, iron, copper, silver, cobalt, nickel, zinc, tungsten, and some gold.
